Nitrogen Audit ($100)
This product is simply a personal judgement of the ideal form of nitrogen, the ideal amount of nitrogen, and the ideal timing of that nitrogen specific to your grass type in your specific climate (city) with your amount of shade, traffic, and irrigation (USA only).
After purchase, please send the following information to support@seed-boss.com:
- Your city and state
- Lawn size
- Approximate Age of Lawn Genetics
-
Preferred application equipment (spraying is cheaper and performs better certain months... granular can be faster with larger lawn sizes but product tends to cost about 4x as much as dissolving urea in water).
- Your preference for how many applications you'd be willing to make per year. I personally apply about 1 small to moderate application per month of mowing season to help hold color, minimize disease, reduce growth flushes, and improve carb efficiency for the plant (better stress tolerance)
-
Your grass type(s), and a very rough estimate for ratios of each grass type (a simple cool-season grass identification guide is below)
- Perennial Ryegrass is distinctly very shiny on one side of the blade
- TTTF is grippy when a grass blade is slid through the fingers in the tip to stalk direction
- KBG has a distinct canoe-shaped cupped tip on uncut blades
- Fine Fescue has a distinctly fine hairlike texture
-
The approximate amount of shade (pictures may be helpful)
- Approximate amount of traffic
- Lawn pH if known (Google "Turf extension office near me" for a good place to get a soil test)
- Please mention any months the turf will be expected to be not growing due to a lack of irrigation during drought... if notable drought stress is allowed nitrogen should be reduced to the extent that growth is reduced
For granular, a typical nitrogen audit would include a schedule for 4-6 applications of a Scott's 32-0-4 fertilizer annually in most cases (or 46-0-0 urea for acreage).
For liquids, a typical nitrogen audit would include a personalized nitrogen schedule for 8-10 applications of urea dissolved in water in most cases... you've probably heard otherwise, but potassium is rarely your friend in the lawn in terms of turf quality.
Fertilizer Equipment recommendations Based on Lawn Size
Up to 5,000': FlowZone Cyclone Backpack Sprayer with a TeeJet TTI11004 spray tip
5,000-15,000': Solo Chest Mount Broadcast Spreader (20 pound capacity)
15,000+': Spyker Broadcast Spreader (avoid Scott's spreaders and drop spreaders)
If you are going to get a sprayer, the Cyclone has to be the best value out there... it's built well and every part can be ordered from FlowZone. In my opinion the Typhoon is not better than the Cyclone... the Typhoon has the same amount of click settings but double the PSI, so that means less precision per click. And that extra pump means extra weight, and in my experience that extra 60PSI is of little value to a home owner.
